May 31, 2010

Here is today's quote:

"A church in the land without the Spirit is rather a curse than a blessing. If you have not the Spirit of God, Christian worker, remember that you stand in somebody else's way; you are a fruitless tree standing where a fruitful tree might grow."

Charles Spurgeon

May 31, 2010

What follows is our last installment of prayers from John Birch. I hope you have enjoyed his often poetic approach to prayer and that the past days have been a blessing to your spiritual journey.

Here is today's prayer:

Lord, we would grow with you
New shoots reaching out
Hands stretched upward
Like leaves newly formed
Soaking up your light and warmth
Lord, we would grow with you

Lord, we would grow with you
In sunshine and rain
In darkness and light
In cold days and summer days
From Springtime to Winter
Lord, we would grow with you

Lord, we would grow with you
And bring forth fruit
That is pleasing to you
Fed by your living water
Giving sustainance to others
Lord, we would grow with you

May 30, 2010

Here is today's prayer:
In the ordinary moments of our lives
When thoughts, distractions
And busyness might keep us apart
Open our hearts to let you in

When you stand before us
As angel or stranger
And whisper softly to our soul
Open our hearts in obedience to your will

Here is today's quote:

"Whether we like it or not, asking is the rule of the Kingdom. If you may have everything by asking in His Name, and nothing without asking, I beg you to see how absolutely vital prayer is."

Charles Spurgeon

May 29, 2010

Here is today's prayer:

Who do we follow...
A teacher?
You were a good teacher
Full of wisdom
A moral compass
Guidance
For the journey.

Who do we follow...
A prophet?
You were indeed a prophet
Bringing God's word
Of love, justice
And freedom
For the journey.

Who do we follow...
A friend?
You were certainly friend
To outcast and sinner
Feeding the weak
Lightening the load
For the journey.

Who do we follow...
All of these
None of these
For as this world's Saviour
You are all of these
And so much more
As you take the very least of us
And make the very most of us

Who do we follow?
Jesus Christ
Our Saviour

Charles Spurgeon

May 28, 2010

Here is today's prayer:

Our paths may cross
in lonely desert spaces
or crowded city places
on mountain steep
or urban street
but our paths will cross
and you will offer
to lighten our load
walk our road
ethe pain
take the strain
Our paths shall cross
when you will call
and shall we turn
can we learn
to hear your voice
make the choice

Our paths will cross…
Our gain or loss

Here is today's quote:

"The bridge of grace will bear your weight, brother. Thousands of big sinners have gone across that bridge, yea, tens of thousands have gone over it. I can hear their trampings now as they traverse the great arches of the bridge of salvation. They come by the thousands, by their myriads, e'er since that day when Christ first entered His glory. They come and yet never a stone has sprung in that mighty bridge. Some have been the chief of sinners and some have come at the very last of their days but the arch has never yielded beneath their weight. I will go with them trusting to the same support. It will bear me over as it has for them."

Charles Spurgeon

May 27, 2010

Here is today's prayer:

In the lonely places
The wilderness
Where we stand forlorn
Windswept and alone
Your voice calls out
Prepare a way for the Lord

In the dark places
The shadows
Where we hide our fears
Embrace our tears
Your voice calls out
Prepare a way for the Lord

Charles Spurgeon

May 25, 2010

Here is today's prayer:

In your time, Saving God
You walked upon this earth
And in your time
Became one of us
To show what we could become
Remind us always
As we look at our lives
In comparison with yours
That at the centre of all things
Is the saving Grace of God

In your time, Mighty God
You will come in glory
And in your time
Gather the harvest
From one end of this earth to the other
Remind us always
In times of plenty
And in times of famine
That at the centre of all things
Are the mercy and justice of God
Amen

Here is today's prayer:

Create in me a pure heart, O God
And renew a faithful spirit within me
Restore to me the joy of your salvation
And an willing spirit to sustain me
O Lord, open our lips
And our mouths will forever declare your praise
Teach us obedience, Lord
In every part of our lives
Ears to hear your word
Hands to do your work
Feet to walk your path
A heart for all your people
A mouth to shout your praise
A childlike faith
Humilty
Confidence
That says
To the possible
And the impossible
I am the Lord's servant
May it be to me as you have said.
Amen

There is a transformation that takes place
within the warmth of your embrace

refuge, shelter, fortress and stronghold

the love that knows no bounds
That you are God
And I am lost outside of your embrace.

Here is today's prayer:

Into the daily cycle of our lives
When all seems well
With us and with the world
When our yoke is easy
And the burden light
You break in
And scatter our complacency

Into the daily cycle of our lives
When we are comfortable
And at our ease
When the fire is lit
But eyes are closed
You break in
And challenge our dependency

You break into
Our daily prayers
Humble hearts
Lay souls bare
You break in
You break in

You break in
When defences are down
With an Angel's shout
Or the quietest sound
You break in
You break in

And we change
And all things change
When you break in

For the remainder of this month, I would like to introduce you to the prayers of John Birch.

Here is today's prayer:

We have heard your glorious whisper
Almost silent, yet insistent
Breaking through the chatter
Of many voices
The clatter
Of background noises
The wind
The rain
Storm and hurricane
Through all of this
Your voice remains
Unchangeable
Cuts through to heart
And soul
Unmissable
'Come follow me
Pick up the Cross…
My burden is no burden at all
It is simply love
Poured out for you
And through you
Sustaining
Empowering …
Come follow me'

The world has ears
Yet fails to hear
But we have heard your glorious whisper

I rise today
Through the strength of heaven -
Light of sun,

Firmness of rock.

O Soverign and almighty Lord, bless all thy people, and all thy flock. Give thy peace, thy help, thy love unto us thy servants, the sheep of thy fold, that we may be united in the bond of peace and love, one body and one spirit, in one hope of our calling, in thy divine and boundless love.

"I would sooner pluck one single brand from the burning than explain all mysteries."

Charles Spurgeon

May 14, 2010

Here is today's prayer:

Lord, becsue you have made me, I owe you the whole of my love; because you have redeemed me, I owe you the whole of myself; because you have promised so much, I owe you my whole being. Moreover, I owe you as much more love than myself as you are greater than I, for whom you gave yourself and to whom you promised yourself. I pray you, Lord, make me taste by love what I taste by knowledge; let me know by love what I know by understanding. I owe you more than my whole self, but I have no more, and by myself I cannot render the whole of it to you. Draw me to you, Lord, in the fullness of your love. I am wholly yours by creation; make me all yours, too, in love.

Charles Spurgeon

May 13, 2010

Here is today's prayer:

Our God, God of all men
God of heaven and earth, seas and rivers,
God of sun and moon, of all the stars,
God of high mountain and lowly valley,
God over heaven, and in heaven, and under heaven.
He has a dwelling in heaven and earth and sea
and in all things that are in them.
He inspires all things, he quickens all things.
He is over all things, he supports all things.
He makes the light of the sun to shine,
He surrounds the moon and the stars,
He has made wells in the arid earth,
Placed dry islands in the sea.
He has a Son co-eternal with himself...
And the Holy Spirit breathes in them;
Not separate are the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

I thought I would challenge our thinking this month by sharing quotes from Charles Spurgeon in our daily quote series.

Charles Spurgeon

May 5, 2010

Here is today's prayer:

Look upon us, O Lord,
and let all the darkness of our souls
vanish before the beams of thy brightness.
Fill us with holy love,
and open to us the treasures of thy wisdom.
All our desire is known unto thee,
therefore perfect what thou hast begun,
and what thy Spirit has awakened us to ask in prayer.
We seek thy face,
turn thy face unto us and show us thy glory.
Then shall our longing be satisfied,
and our peace shall be perfect.

My Apologies

I wanted to take just a moment to apologize for not having my quotes and prayers of the day updated for the last few days. In the whirlwind of launching a new website, hosting a fundraiser, marrying a couple, preaching 2 services, implementing new computer ministries, I have let my routine of posting daily get away from me.

I pray that there will be grace and commit to have the rotation up again by tomorrow, May 5th.

Grace and peace,

Russell
